2010 was a significant year for Hospice Emanuel. Our vision to develop a comprehensive palliative care center in Oradea, with a bed unit and a day center, began to take shape. The Oradea City Council awarded the Hospice Emanuel Foundation, free of charge, a 5,000 m2 plot of land for the construction of the new center.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

In 2005, on the occasion of World Palliative Care Day, the \"Hospice Emanuel\" home palliative care center was inaugurated, in the presence of Mrs. Mary Baines, pioneer of the international hospice movement, former medical director of the first modern hospice, St. Christopher's Hospice in London.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Since 2004, Hospice Emanuel has also been involved in the field of palliative care education, organizing, in collaboration with the Palliative Care Studies Center in Bra\u015fov, introductory and specialized courses in palliative care for professionals in the medical and psychosocial fields.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

As a result of the development of the project and the trends in the legislation of palliative care in Romania, Hospice Emanuel was registered as a separate organization in the Register of Foundations and Associations, acquiring legal personality in 2003.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

In 1999, following requests from the pediatric hospital, hospice services were extended to children with various conditions with limited prognosis.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Hospice Emanuel operated as one of the projects of the Christian Social Assistance Foundation, being intended exclusively for home care of adult patients diagnosed with terminal cancer.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Hospice Emanuel was founded<\/div>

In 1996, Hospice Emanuel was founded on the initiative of a graduate of Emanuel University in Oradea, becoming the second home palliative care service in Romania.<\/p>

The need to establish a community palliative care center in Oradea was desperate. At that time, most patients with advanced oncological disease were discharged from the hospital to their homes, without access to specialized medical care.<\/p>

There were no home care services, and the concept of palliative care was new to Romania.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n
